This is what Auckland, New Zealand, looked like 600 years ago—and hopefully doesn't again any time soon.

Auckland Volcanic Jewels

Our 53 volcanos in Auckland, Aotearoa, hide a gem-quality olivine called Peridot, the only jewel native to Tāmaki Makaurau. Periodic eruptions spanning 200,000 years ejected these crystals amidst the lava and scoria. Their vibrant green hue proffers a clarity and sparkle reminiscent of our sun-kissed greenery and lapping shores. This gem is both uniquely local to Auckland and a verdant condensation of our locale.

Kris spends sunny days collecting these fine green gemstones and other relics. If you see a paddler on Auckland Harbour in an inflatable green pack-raft and orange hat, that’s probably him out fossicking. On return, he fuses the volcanic and coastal materials with fine-metals, forging the art below. Each piece is entirely unique, hand-cast, never to be repeated, artisanal, and guaranteed certifiably Jafa.*
